SHOW ME WHAT!!!!!!

I don’t have any dating apps on my phone and I haven’t had a boyfriend yet. But I’m also a very emotional person who feels a lot, so when I do speak to someone in a potentially romantic way, I want to know that that person feels the same way about me as I do about them. Otherwise I’m simply not interested.
It has become so normalised to play so many mind games in the feat of getting to know a potential partner. Such as leaving someone on delivered for hours on end or acting non-chalant to try and make yourself seem cooler. News flash, you don’t look cool. If you are going to go out of your way to talk someone up in the hopes of becoming their partner, why on earth would you do things that would make them question how much you like them? That’s something I will never understand. Don’t say you need someone so bad and then not text them back…
‘Show me what’ is a song about knowing your worth but also knowing that you want more from someone. Which isn’t a weakness. It is powerful to know what you want. Sometimes it’s nice to have the validation of knowing someone likes you the same way you like them. Because when the lines are blurred and you're not too sure where you stand with someone it can leave you in a confusing headspace that takes up more of your time than it should. The song is about knowing the right time to walk away if someone isn’t going to value you the way that you deserve. Because there is literally no point in letting someone string you along, you and your time are a lot more valuable than that.
That being said, it is nice to know that someone feels the same way about you as you do about them. And sometimes it can be very frustrating when you feel as though the person you like just isn’t reciprocating the same energy as much as you want them to. ‘I know my worth, and I want you to recognise that as well’. So yes the song is powerful and hot but it also has a tinge of yearning for something more in it. I think that’s a pretty good mix!
I think that these themes are reflected really well in the production and structure of the song. The song opens with a softer vocal that emphasises my want and frustration for something more. The lyrics are kind of cheeky and illustrate how we both want things we can’t have, or don’t have in the moment. For example in my situation, he wanted to act like someone he was not to try and make himself ‘cooler’ if you will; I just wanted his t-shirt tbh. But I also wanted the clarity in knowing that he liked me back.
The song then has a really strong drop amplifying the confidence that underlies all these feelings. My producer Ben, is a wizard when it comes to this soundscape and he smashed it once again. The vocal chop just before the drop is actually vocals sampled from “BITCH, WHERE’S MY COUTURE?’ which was the single before this one. So now these songs have a soul tie which is really beautiful as we enter this new project and era of my career.
This song feels different and new for me and I feel as though it is another piece I've found of myself as an artist. This song has been on repeat in my headphones ever since I wrote it and once again I am beyond proud of what Ben and I have made and I can’t wait to perform it someday soon. It’s going to be beyond major.
Thank you for listening and reading and engaging with me!!!!!
See you next week on the bloggggggg!!!!
